We chose this lifestyle in order to spend more time in a climate that feels better for our health, but also allows us the freedom to travel with ease so our cats can be with us 24/7. We spent years preparing ourselves and the cats for the transition, and share many tips and tricks on my YouTube channel.

My name is Jessica and I was born in New England with adventure in my soul. During my decade-long career as as on-air personality in FM radio, I quickly learned there was never enough paid vacation time. Because of this, I would frequently take unpaid time off for solo travel. In 2004, I retired from the airwaves and eventually transitioned into the wellness industry. I assisted various doctors of chiropractic with postural exams, x-rays, and nutrition and lifestyle education. This opened up the opportunity for more travel through business trips for frequent trainings. I even utilized my broadcasting background by co-hosting a health podcast for a few years. During that time and also in the midst of a year-long yoga teacher training program, I had uncovered some of my own long-term health issues which led to a diagnosis of late-stage Lyme disease (among other many things). I started blogging about it in my spare time and shared my health journey as a published writer and as a guest on other podcasts. It was a business trip to Scottsdale, Arizona that changed the course of my life. I felt amazing in desert. I had more energy and couldn’t get enough of the triple digit temperatures. I knew I needed to spend more time there.
I met my husband, David, in 2007. Our first big adventure together was running off to a Caribbean island to get married. From there we starting planning road trips. One day we talked about flying somewhere warm to escape winter and I had remembered my desire to return to Arizona. I booked a trip there for us, secretly hoping he’d fall in love with the dry air and triple digit temperatures just like I had. It worked! That one trip to the desert turned into many and at that point we both knew we wanted to spend longer periods of time there. Now it was time to start making decisions that would align with this goal. I transitioned to teaching yoga full time. David was still working for corporate America and wasn’t quite ready to take the big scary walk through the exit door. While I waited for him to take the leap, I opened a small yoga studio in the city. I know that doesn’t sound like it was the best decision for our goals, but in some indirect way it did lead us to the next step: We opened a mobile/online retail business. And we were busy. This is what ultimately helped create geographic freedom for us. I closed the yoga studio after three years and we moved to Phoenix the following year, as a 12 month experiment. One year turned into two, and it was during the second year living in Arizona that we got serious about the idea of RV living.
We started shopping for RV’s in person in 2018 while living in Phoenix. Our first trip didn’t go well. Every time we toured the inside of an RV, my sinuses would instantly swell, and I would get dizzy and nauseated. I thought maybe it was a fluke but it kept happening each time I walked inside of an RV. That’s when I started researching WHY. Turns out most RV’s are made with materials that can produce chemical off-gassing. I also learned over the years that it is common for someone with my health history to develop environmental sensitivities, and my immune system was in overdrive at this point. We did more research and learned about a company called Livin’ Lite that made aluminum toy haulers, which are low in materials that produce off-gassing. After a call to the company we had learned they had permanently ceased production. Oh, what timing! While searching unsuccessfully for used ones that might still be on the market, we learned of a couple more companies that seemed promising: ATC and Living Vehicle.
